The nature of life is to be creative. Creativity is not just for technical artists. Everything we do is creative and all our thoughts are creative. Every problem we solve is creative. How we communicate to a child is creative. How we achieve our dreams is creative. We have the power to create our lives. We have the power to create our freedom, happiness, even bliss.
So, why not be the artist of your life? To know yourself and create the life you want, imagine you are showing up to a blank canvas to paint. Pick up a brush, go to the color you like, and bring it to the paper. Do you want to paint big and boisterous or do you want to do something small or easy? The trick is to go where the energy is. Meet your insides and dive in!
When we follow the energy in our lives we engage passion. We listen to the innate call in us to be the creators of our life. We pay attention to our needs and remain aware to what is calling us from deep inside. When we listen to our intuition and follow through we meet unlimited expansion. Rather than hide, avoid, deny or come up with excuses we empower ourselves to create our life exactly as we want it.
Here are 5 wild and crazy tools to be the artist of your own life:
1.) Step into the unknown. Some of us desire to take comfort in our day-to-day where everything stays remotely the same. We learn to stay in control, anticipate what will happen, and do whatever is necessary to make sure nothing rocks our boat. To avoid this, welcome the mysterious and open to explore the unknown.
TOOL: Don’t think too much about how you want to accomplish something or what the outcome will be. Simply ask yourself, “What am I called to right now? What has energy?” Then just jump in and see what unfolds.
2.) Take a risk. Straighten your arms above your head, let go of your feet and dive off the high board. There is no guarantee how you will land but if you dive head first, you will learn from the diving after the fall. Either way, don’t be a chicken – be an eagle! Take a risk and stretch yourself out of narrow confines.
TOOL: Welcome what you fear and take a risk. Stretch beyond your comfortable self to learn how to master this fear. Choose a “stretch” that feels risky in some area in your life and commit to doing it today.
3.) Play. We all have a child that lives inside of us that loves to play, use our unlimited imagination and has fun creating things. Children are not afraid when they play. They are free to be out of control and wild. Draw on The Artist within you to express yourself fully and open yourself to play like a child again.
TOOL: Ask your child-self what she or he may want to create or what they would like to do for fun and to play. Schedule a play date and make sure you follow through.
4.) Open to a 360-degree view. Ask yourself these open-ended questions to experience the freedom of your creative nature: “What if I could be free?” or “What if there was nothing to lose?” or “What if it didn’t matter if I failed or not?” By asking open-ended questions like these you initiate new perspectives and have a 360-degree view.
THE TOOL: To bring new perspective to your creative journey choose a creative project to do. It could be anything creative such as writing, painting, sculpting, scrap booking, dancing, photography, or just get out some colored pens and paper to draw. Even if you don’t consider yourself to be artistic, open yourself to a new creative perspective.
5.) Allow permission to be. Give yourself permission to be present with the experience you are having without judgment, without making it wrong or bad, or trying to change it. Allow yourself the permission to feel it and be with it just as it is. How would this experience of complete permission feel?
THE TOOL: Ask yourself: “How do I feel right now?” Give yourself permission for whatever you feel – the “light” and the “dark” – and allow it to be brought into your awareness. Then, ask yourself the question, “What if I could be as __________ as I feel?”
These are only some tools to explore and discover your creative nature. What draws you? What is it that you would like to discover? How could you know yourself more and create the life you want?
