The editor of a newspaper once told me, “Just so you know, I’m not a spiritual person. Never was. Never will be.”
Now, I don’t often contradict editors but I’m so convicted in my own beliefs that I actually challenged her on that analysis and asked her permission to explain why I did.
Here’s what I told her and what I believe to be true about all peoples:
Whether male or female, we’re all born with the same two parts. The bones, blood, tissue, muscle, hair, eyes, teeth, etc., make our physical self real while all the invisible elements like our thoughts, passions, creativity, love, hope, beliefs, feelings, kindness, caring, generosity, joy, etc., make our spiritual Self real. If at any time the two become separated, the physical self is pronounced dead and the spiritual Self remains or departs according to our spiritual beliefs.
Viewing it this way, the editor completely agreed with me so I merely pointed out that while she may not be connected to any particular religious beliefs or organization, she most certainly WAS a spiritual person whether she wanted to be or not. From the look on her face, I suspect that realization may have unlocked an old door rusted shut with false belief.
As the new year unfolds itself to you, what are YOU going to believe about your Self? Do you believe your life will never change? That there are just too many challenges and obstacles in your way to ever get to your dreams? Do you think this is all there is to life and that it takes more than what you’ve got to change things for the better? Do you believe you’re not lucky enough to have your own dreams come true like others you know?
False belief. False Belief! FALSE BELIEF!
Inside you right this minute is your very own spirit chuck-full of all the invisible talents, gifts, notes and know-how you’ll need to take your first courageous step. The rest will come as you need it, HOWEVER…
You must first BELIEVE! Not just hope. Believe. Do you know the difference?
Hope is wishing something will come true.
Belief is Knowing it will.
One of the great mysteries of the Universe is that the more we understand our spiritual Selves, the more our spiritual powers are revealed and released yet so few people ever closely examine this. Believe and Receive. Why do you think you were created with a spirit to begin with? Do you believe that was by chance? Or mistake? Or that it was an insignificant by-product in the creation of man? Just because you may not understand the spiritual realm doesn’t mean spirits don’t exist or have a significant purpose. Yours is in you specifically to help you. Just like your physical self helps you… your hands, your feet, your eyes, your ears… each part helps you. Now… imagine what your all-mighty, all-mysterious spirit has been created to do for you. Totally beyond comprehension and imagination, isn’t it? Worth investigating and giving more thought to though, yes?
Exploring your spiritual self will quite literally be the trip of your lifetime. You must excavate your history and dig deep to find the truth sometimes and that can be tedious, time-consuming and painful but that precise process is the one that will help you develop your new beliefs about your Self. Scrape off the old lies, chisel out the beliefs that belong to someone else, brush away the dirt, dust and debris to make way for the bigger, the better, the blessed.
YOU are the magnificent reflection of your Creator’s perfection. Challenge that if you must, but why would you want to? YOU get to choose what you believe…about your Self…about life … about anything and everything. You choose.
What are YOU going to believe in 2012?
Me?
I believe I’ll Believe.
Bliss and blessings to you,
