Inner Connection

Fall is my favourite time of year in Vancouver.  I feel so grateful to be in this city and experience the scenic autumn season.  The leaves transform into vibrant colors and release to the ground, the temperature cools down significantly and there is crispness in the air.  When I reflect on fall I think of children running into piles of leaves and launching them into the sky.  During Fall I also look forward to cuddling up with a warm blanket, a tea and a great book- a perfect time to go within.

In the spring and summer we naturally extend ourselves outwardly, it must be the weather or something in the air.  Vacations, celebrations, and summer camps are all reflections of this.  But in the fall something changes and we start to return to ourselves again.  This shift occurs even if we are not aware of it or consciously trying to cultivate it.  It is important to let this shift happen rather than fight against it.  When we try to stay busy and active through the fall we tend to get rundown and sick.

One way to go within is to practice meditation.  Fall is by far the best time to learn how to meditate or to reintroduce it into your life.  There are many ways to meditate and I too have my own approach.  But it is important for you to find an approach that suits you.  If you have never meditated before try attending a class or buying a guided meditation cd to help you learn the new skills.  If you have experience with meditation, try something different.  Change the technique; the way you do it.  If you listen to music normally, turn it off.  If you don’t usually listen to music while meditating, play a relaxing cd.  Let your meditation practice be dynamic and in its own way fun!  Change is good and it’s healthy to get out of your comfort zone.

If fall inspires one thing in me, it’s that change is inevitable and necessary.  It may not be the most glamorous season of the year but it does motivate me to go within and cultivate a deeper sense of inner connection.

...more about

I am a Wellness Life Coach at the YWCA in Vancouver. I decided to become a Coach after working with one in my twenties. I remember walking into my Coach’s office about 10 years ago feeling confused and overwhelmed. My health was not great, my career objectives were all over the place and I felt completely drained. But within minutes of our session I remember looking at him and thinking “I want what you’ve got”. I left that session feeling inspired, motivated and excited for the possibilities. It has now become my passion and profession to share that gift with everyone I work with. My laser sharp intuition and ability to create a safe space for powerful transformation blows my clients away – no joke. They are always impressed with how quickly and accurately we discover the root cause of their challenges. This skill is something I was born with and have perfected over time. Working with various teachers, professionals, mentors and guides has been my path to understanding and expressing my gifts. As a Life Coach I see all challenges as opportunities in disguise. My approach is very simple – it requires that you are open to see your outside world as a reflection of your inside one and are willing to look within. It’s all about responsibility - if you’ve got that than anything is possible! I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics and Psychology from the University of British Columbia and have received my Life Coach training from Veraxis in 2008. I was certified as an Energy Therapist of Psychosomatic Energetics in 2009.
