5 Secrets to Living Free

Oh the free life, wouldn’t that be nice? Only when the kids move out, the debt is paid off and that situation is resolved, right? Believe it or not you can be free now even with all those things going on. The happiest people in the world don’t have extreme luck, silver spoons or perfect lives, they just know these 5 secrets that anyone can apply.

Secret #1 Learn to dis-identify with the mind.

The mind, ego, gremlin, or monkey – whatever you want to call it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. It’s time to accept it and find some way of making the best of its presence. I see many people trying to quiet the mind and control their thoughts. This is fine but it takes a whole lot of energy to do that on a daily basis. Why not just let the mind do its thing and not listen to it or believe it all the time. Imagine this, a little kid is pulling on your leg trying to get your attention and making all kinds of demands and requests. Would you listen to this little kid as if he/she was an expert in your life? I think not. It’s time to put the ego where it belongs – in the background on a time out.

Secret #2 Pay yourself first – always

This secret was inspired by a book I read called Rich Dad, Poor Dad (fantastic book) which is all about financial health and success. The author made it clear that it is very important to always pay yourself first with your cash. I see this statement as being very relevant in every area of our lives. Besides it’s all energy, right? When it comes to your time try paying yourself first. Don’t give it all away to other people and leave nothing for yourself. It creates a very unhappy situation where you just get resentful at yourself and others. Find ways to pay yourself first and make it a priority.

Secret #3 Spring clean all year

After a good spring clean session I always feel lighter… ahhhhhhhh. Getting rid of things that don’t fit, work, look good, or go unused is something that my neat freak personality loves. But it doesn’t stop there; we can spring clean our wonderful selves too! Beliefs, thoughts, values they get outdated fast. We need to check in frequently to make sure that our inner world is up to date with where we want to be. You get me? We all carry around beliefs that just don’t serve us so we got to spring clean often. I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t hang on to clothes that don’t fit or flatter me. Pull out a journal and write down all the limiting thoughts you have about yourself and then throw that list out!

Secret #4 You’re the boss!

That’s right, you’re the big guy around campus who calls the shots and makes all the rules. Don’t believe me? Even if your life isn’t going the way you want it to it’s still because you made the decisions. I know, I know. I’ll be the first to admit that it’s nice to blame others and situations for things that go badly in our life. But we can’t afford to be victims anymore – it doesn’t help us. You are the creator of your life. If you don’t like what you see you need to look within and ask yourself some important questions. But isn’t this great news!? I love this secret because it makes life such an adventure! Start taking responsibility for everything and ask yourself how you want your life to be different, than take action.

Secret #5 Embrace it all

No heads in the sand please. We need to embrace everything even the things we don’t like. It doesn’t mean that you should be passive or not take any action. It’s just means that when we reject what is happening it creates a very negative feeling in the body. Not fun. See what happens when you open your heart and mind to everything. If you don’t like what you see go back to secret #4 for some inspiration.

...more about

I am a Wellness Life Coach at the YWCA in Vancouver. I decided to become a Coach after working with one in my twenties. I remember walking into my Coach’s office about 10 years ago feeling confused and overwhelmed. My health was not great, my career objectives were all over the place and I felt completely drained. But within minutes of our session I remember looking at him and thinking “I want what you’ve got”. I left that session feeling inspired, motivated and excited for the possibilities. It has now become my passion and profession to share that gift with everyone I work with. My laser sharp intuition and ability to create a safe space for powerful transformation blows my clients away – no joke. They are always impressed with how quickly and accurately we discover the root cause of their challenges. This skill is something I was born with and have perfected over time. Working with various teachers, professionals, mentors and guides has been my path to understanding and expressing my gifts. As a Life Coach I see all challenges as opportunities in disguise. My approach is very simple – it requires that you are open to see your outside world as a reflection of your inside one and are willing to look within. It’s all about responsibility - if you’ve got that than anything is possible! I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics and Psychology from the University of British Columbia and have received my Life Coach training from Veraxis in 2008. I was certified as an Energy Therapist of Psychosomatic Energetics in 2009.
